2.25 Goodbye Gossip Girl

I was feeling sad
Can't help looking back
Highways flew by
Run, run, run away
No sense of time
Want you to stay
Want keep you inside

You can tell Jesus that the bitch is back*.

It has been a while.

What a weak season finale! It felt like any other poorly written episode out of the season collection.
There was one thing alone that felt right, Gossip Girl's own overview of the fantastic five antics throughtout the season.
Other than that, it was really, really lacking. It had nothing of the old days and certainly wasn't up to rival the season 1 finale. It's like I always say, Gossip Girl is addictive, but it sucks.

Nate Archibald: Class whore. Dan Humphrey: The ultimate insider. Chuck Bass: Coward. Blair Waldorf: Weakling. Serena van der Woodsen: Oficially irrelevant.

My biggest disappointment was Blair.
Blair and Chuck are everybody's favourite characters, favourite couple. It's already a tiresome, redundant cliché. Let's not go there... for now.
What I mean is - Blair has become this dumb and pathetic person. A weakling. Though if she was just a coward, uncapable person, it would be natural for her age. You're allowed to feel weak, alone against the world. You know, my whole world is falling apart. One could sympathize. But now - she is still on this selfdepreciative path. What the fuck is wrong with her? I actually hate her when she does that. She has stripped for him over 50 times expecting him to say ILY back! Does it make any sense? It is painful to watch.
I'm sure people are quoting her as though it was a romantic gesture of desperation; making icons; calling her a heroine.
I think she is completely out of character and even offensive.
I don't care if the world disagrees, that's what I think, that's how I've been feeling since episode 5 and I am really upset right now.

The apocalypse they intented to create with the war Serena declared against GG was so incredibly badly written that no one was even enticed by the prospects of knowing - not who is Gossip Girl - but what our fabulous crust knew of her. We could be interested, but the script wasn't inspiring at all.

Jenny's little coronation? One word: contrived.

Enfin, it's imperative that we address the V problem.
There wasn't a single recap of this episode in which the author didn't trash Vanessa somehow. But that's just because she deserves.
And you know what? I'm tired of having to apologize to all Jessica Szohr fans only because I hate her character. Drop it. I hate it, I loathe it. I really am through with Vanessa plaguing this series! You're entitled to like this contemptible character, that's up to you. But everytime someone says a word against Vanessa on a forum, there's a luminous ray of light who replies "Jessica Szohr is nice", "Jessica Szohr is beautiful". OK, mate, I don't care. I'm not talking about JS, I'm talking about VA. But, since you brought that up, I am not willing to put up with Vanessa in order to keep JS employed.

Oh, and Chuck did say I love you back. Yeah, it is a big deal. It's just that... that scene was awful.

Gossip Girl: lousiest piece of shit.
Congratulations, now you have my diploma.

* I wasn't gonna say that, but then I totally did.

Not even Georgina's return was a triumph. It was actually, pretty lame. Please explain to me why crazy like G would fall so badly for Dan Humphrey? I expected G to go complete ballistic on Dan and reveal all her nefarious revenge plans against Blair. Instead, G was reduced into a normal, jealous teenager girl. Even if say G had fallen for Dan, no she would not have blackmailed V into trying to break D/O up (even if it was a funny scene, many times thanks to MT,) because she would totally have roofied his ass and raped him! THAT's Georgina Sparks' level of crazy!

(And how lame was it that G taking down Poppy was done offscreen? Really? Really?)

Yes, the season finale was definite fail and weaker than weak. I thought GG blasting those labels was such an idiot plot. Why did she only pick on those five students? To manipulate a plot where Serena goes bananas and tries to prove her almighty relevance? To provoke Blair into stripped down and confessing her ILYs to Chuck for the 100th time? And what finally gave Chuck the balls to admit his feelings for Blair that all her nudity couldn't do? A Gossip Girl blast??? Are you kidding me? All Blair's begging, boobs and meltdowns couldn't push him to say it, but a GG blast calling him a coward could provoke him into saying ILY? Serious, show? Seriously?

I'm sure people are quoting her as though it was a romantic gesture of desperation; making icons; calling her a heroine.

Just word! THANK YOU! Thank you for me a sensible, rational person. CB's "love" story stopped being romantic a long, LONG time ago and started being an abusive - even sick - relationship. I cannot even start to fully convey how fucking pissed off I am at the fucking show for ruining Blair! They took the fundamental biggest difference and reason for shipping CB and pissed all over it. CB isn't shit better than S1!NB was. Chuck has hurt Blair just as much if not much more than Nate ever did. At least, Nate did it because he was an oblivious pothead. 99% of Chuck's hurt have been intentional. And THAT's why I couldn't continue shipping CB! I thought the breaking point was when Blair caught him hopped up on drugs and hookers. And that wasn't even the worst part, no, the worst part was his completely unapologetic and downright cruel attitude afterwards which pissed me the hell off! But of course, back then, I couldn't have know that the show had much, much worse things in mind. Okay, so instead of spending the next couple of episodes begging, groveling Blair to take him back, what does the SOB do? He falls in love with a hooker! The most beautiful girl he's ever seen. And he had to save her too! Such romantic notions. Quick! Need. Bucket. Now. I need to barf! Turns out the hooker was just playing him by janking his - well, you know. Then the Basshole remembers Blair.

I actually had tons more to complain about, but midways, I just lost interest. Gossip Girl just ain't worth me getting worked up about it anymore. After each episode, it's lucky if I can't even be bothered to check Fanforum for comments regarding Blair's style. And speaking of style, Blair's style suit's her character - lame. Boring.

I confess I always thought this hate towards Vanessa was uncalled for. I used to ask myself wheter this had anything to do with race underneath. But when it struck me it hit sound. I don't think it has anything to do with racism because all those silly girls squealing on the fandom are too superficial to make a coletive subliminar attack yet they all seem to dislike Vanessa. Also I feel the disgust for Vanessa myself. She's not at all like in the books and she simply doesn't belong to the show.
I don't think she is finely portrayed either.
Anyway, I like your observations and I share this need to complain about Gossip Girl. I'm sure to come back more often.

@Advo
As usual, I completely agree with you. Georgina is being so lame and Blair's change of character has me on the verge of puking.
I feel so sad that that wonderful show going on by season 1 doesn't exist anymore. And what's worse, there are not a lot of people who see it this way. I mean, I got really tired of the fandom. People are really INSANE over Chuck and Blair and they put some really cheesy fanfiction authors on pedestals, like they actually want these awful, awful pseudo-romantic storylines to happen.
Only thing almost universal is Vanessa hate.
And Blair dresses as if she's blind. What the hell was that green coat cracking all the atmosphere on the season finale? Did she hug an electric fish or something?
I'm looking forward to see your ideas implemented, btw, whenever you find the time to do it.

@Anonymous
I get where you're coming from. As I said, I'm through with the fandom, where I never belong in, by the way. You're welcome to this bitchfest.

WORD!

I forgot to watch last night's episode. But what I read about it was B-A-D. There was Blair acting like a lame bitch instead of superior bitch for the millionth time. There were "trust" issues between CB. Oh show. I love how you pretend to be profond and meaningful. There was Blair and *shudder* V bonding. WTF?!!!!

Although, I did read that Tripp made an appearance, WEEEEEE! I love Tripp/Aaron Tveit and Tripp/Blair is my newest crack!ship. Seriously. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQI_OBNzS4k
There were arm-touching and not-so-subtle conversations about (not) Nate. And it can all be explained by this: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5101853/1/The_Secrets_of_Summer

Whoops. I mentioned the Tripp/Blair lovin' already. Oh well. It cannot be mentioned enough how I LOATHE CB nowadays. I try to include it in every GG conversation I have ;D.

I'm going to watch the vid right now and I promise to pay attention to all Tripp/Blair mentions and interactions, since I trust your judgement and you seem not to be alone in this ship!
Btw, today I'm gonna watch episodes 3, 4 and 5 IF I can take it. It may be too much crap to handle... oh well!

Advo said...

Oh dear. Have you watched them yet? I suggest taking some breaks in between, it's a lot of garbage to get through.

Let's start with Nate. Okay, I thought it could have been something because a)LOVE Joanne Garcia and b) Bree randowmly threatening Carter sounded like fun. Reality check: Nate was completely isolated from the rest of the cast. His love life still sucks. He's still too dumb to be real. And Bree sucked too. And worse, they sucked Carter into their suck-SL!!! That's just bloody unforgivable!

Serena... She could have been awesome because a)she had Carter, b)she was finally off-OFF the Dan-train and c)FINALLY a mentioning of the elusive "Keith" Van Woodsen. Reality check: She made Carter SUCK! He was annoyingly sappy over SERENA?!!! REALLY?!!! And Carter's "story" with S was L_A_M_E! Serena going wild in OFF-SCREENVILLE to catch daddy's attention was SUPER-lame. And Serena and Nate (LOL, as if they even had enough braincells together to come up with such an "elaborate" scheme) trying to win back Carter (HAHAHA) in a poker game was so utterly ridiculous and rubbish that I seriously considered getting my eyes and ears checked!

TBC on your other post about S3.
